What is live wedding painting?

An outdoor painting setup featuring an easel with a partially finished painting of a woman, outdoors in a wooded area with trees and greenery.

Live wedding painting is a unique form of performance art. I set up my easel at your wedding and create a custom portrait of you and your partner as the day unfolds.

Guests love watching the canvas come to life, adding to the atmosphere and magic of your celebration.

The Process

I begin painting after the ceremony, capturing the essence of your day as it happens. Throughout the evening — often 7+ hours of live painting — your portrait steadily takes shape before the eyes of your loved ones.

At the end of the evening, I take the canvas back to my studio, where I’ll spend the following week refining details to ensure the most beautiful finish.

The Result

Within a month, your completed artwork will be ready and delivered to you. What you receive is not just a painting, but an heirloom

  • On your wedding day, I’ll create the base and capture the atmosphere of the scene. I then complete the finer details within the following week. The painting requires around two weeks to fully cure, and delivery takes approximately one more week — meaning your finished artwork will arrive about one month after your wedding.

  • At the end of the night, I take your painting back to my studio, where I spend the following week refining it to ensure the best possible result. This process also gives the paints time to begin curing.

I work in oils, as they offer unmatched depth, richness, and a timeless quality for portraits. Unlike other mediums, oils cure slowly through oxidation rather than quick drying, which is why I complete and allow them to set properly in my studio.

  • As many weddings have the ceremony and reception in different locations, I travel between locations on the day at no extra cost.

  • I paint exclusively in oils for their depth, richness, and timeless quality. Unlike quick-drying paints, oils cure slowly through oxidation, which gives them a beautiful luminosity and lasting strength. For this reason, I complete and allow your painting to cure fully in my studio before it is ready for collection or delivery.

  • Beforehand, we’ll talk through the setting you’d like, and I’ll create a scene that reflects your style.
